Panic, via Eurogamer:

The launch of Playdate has been pushed back to early 2022 due to a "surprise battery issue" found in finished units.

Further bad news followed, as parts for units due to be sold next year have now been hit by the ongoing component shortage.

"We can't get any more of Playdate's current CPU for - you're not going to believe this - two years. Like, 730 days," Panic continued.

The surprise battery issue is clearly a disappointment, but the headline here is the component shortage resulting in the two-year unavailability of the CPU. That's crazy.

That said, what's triply disappointing for me is that, even though Playdate is manufactured next door, in Malaysia, Singapore is not a launch country. So I'm guessing it'll be 2023—at the earliest—before it's on sale here.
